Chakali Recipe- Diwali Special Delicacy
Diwali is incomplete without 2 delicacies..one is chakali and another is Karanji. Yesterday I made Karanji, so today was chakali’s turn. Chakali is a savory and crispy snack which is traditionally made from Bhajani flour.
In Bhajani flour various lentils and pulses are roasted along with few spices and then ground in a flour mill. Being in California it is difficult to make authentic bhajani flour so every year I used to make Murukku which is made from rice flour and urad dal. This time I tried a new chakali recipe from my fellow blogger’s blog..Let’s Cook… She had posted this recipe on our Crave Cook Click FB group.
I found it pretty easy. It is made from Rice flour, Besan and Rava. It came out perfectly crispy and crunchy.
Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
1 cup rice flour
1/2 cup fine semolina
1/4 cup chickpea flour
A pinch asafoetida
1 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
Red chilly powder to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp hot oil for dough
1 cup water or more
Oil for frying Chakli
OR
If you don’t want to make bhajani at home, then get Kapre Chakali Bhajani from store and follow directions for making chakali. 500 gm flour makes around 50 chakalis 🙂
