Anjeer Barfi is an exotic Indian delicacy made from dried figs, mava and dried fruits. I remember Baba getting this on Rakshabandhan from Tiwari sweets in Matunga. I never thought that I would be able to make it at home but it is amazingly easy to make. The best part about this recipe is that it is almost sugarless and can be stored in refrigerator and enjoyed for days and days.I made this for Rakshabandhan and everybody just loved it. Here is the recipe
1 cup crumbled mava (khoya)
1/2 cup chopped dried figs (anjeer)
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp ghee
2 tbsp water
1/4 cup chopped mixed nuts (pistachios, cashewnuts and almonds)
ghee for greasing
Soak the figs in boiled water for 10 minutes
Chop the nuts and keep it aside
After 10 mins chop the soaked figs
In a pan add ghee, 2 tbsp water, sugar and chopped figs
Mix well for 10 minutes. Now add the mava and mixed nuts.
Combine everything well while stirring it continuously
Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and refrigerate for 4-5 hours
Before serving, keep aside at room temperature for 2 hours or till it sets.
Cut into equal square pieces.
Serve immediately or store refrigerated in an air-tight container.
