The authentic Maharashtrian Thali cannot be described in one blog post. There are plethora of delicacies which can define a great Maharashtrian Thali. From Varan Bhat, Batatyachi Bhaji, Aluchi Vadi, Poli Bhaji, Shrikhand to Kothimbir Vadi, Sheera, Batata Vada, Sabudana Vada, Thalipeeth, etc the number of items on my favorite Marathi dishes list is never ending.Today I am sharing a Thali which was cooked by my MIL for dinner. Ambat Goad Daal Recipe

Ambat Goad means tangy and sweet in Marathi which also defines the taste of this daal. It tastes heavenly when served with hot rice and dollop of ghee 🙂

Ingredients

1 cup toovar dal boiled

1.5 cups of water

4-5 kokum

1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

1 tbsp sugar

1 tbsp red chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander cumin powder

Oil

1 tsp musard seeds

pinch of asafetida

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp desiccated coconut

1 string of curry leaves

1 green chilli

salt as per taste

coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

In a bowl, add boiled toovar dal. Add the spices and sugar to it. Mix well

In a pan, heat oil. Add asafetida, mustard seeds, green chilli and curry leaves. Let them splutter.

Now add the dal, ginger garlic paste, water, salt, coconut and kokum.

Let it boil for 20 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

Bharli Bhendi Recipe

Okra stuffed with spices, desiccated coconut and stir fried

Ingredients

Okra 1/2 lb. Washed and slit into half

1 tbsp garlic paste

1 tbsp red chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander cumin powder

1 tsp musard seeds

pinch of asafetida

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tbsp desiccated coconut

salt as per taste

Method

Mix together garlic paste, coconut, salt and all the dry masalas except asafetida.

Stuff the bhindi with the masala.

Heat oil add asafetida and mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add the stuffed bhindi. Cooked for 15 minutes and serve it hot.

Tallela Mogri

Mogri is nothing but Radish String Beans. You can find them in vegetable section of indian groceries. These when tossed with some oil and salt can be great appetizers

In a pan, heat oil. Add mogri and salt. Cook for 15 minutes and serve hot

Ingredients

1 big cauliflower cut into florets

Oil

Salt as per taste

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp red chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander cumin powder

Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

In a pan heat oil.

Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Now add cauliflower florets along with remaining dry masalas and salt

Let it cook for 30 mins

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
