Raw Mango Prawns Curry Recipe
Raw Mango Prawn Curry is an authentic Goan curry where prawn is cooked in coconut and chilli gravy. The unique flavor comes from the raw mango which is added while the curry simmers.
Thanks to Babas Farm we got lot of kairis and hapus ambas this year. I asked for raw mango kairi recipes on my group Facebook Food Group Crave Cook Click. One of the member Shivani Kulkarni shared this recipe of Raw Mango Prawns Curry with me. It was so soo amazing and had such an authentic taste of the Goan Prawn curry which we eat at Goan shacks.
Ingredients for gravy
1tsp Oil
1/2 chopped onion
1/2 raw mango sliced into medium sized pieces
Water as required
For Prawns Marination
25 Prawns cleaned and deveined
1 tbsp turmeric powder
1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
Salt to taste
Grind to a fine Paste
3-4 garlic pods
1 grated coconut (ola khobra)
Small ball sized tamarind
1 tbsp turmeric powder
6 Black peppercorns
1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
5 Dry Red Chillies (Laal Sukkhi Bedgi Mirchi)
Method
1. Marinate the prawns with turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt. Let it rest for half an hour.
2. Soak the tamarind in water for about 10 mins and take out the pulp. Grind together with little water red chillies, coriander seeds, garlic,black peppercorns, turmeric and coconut with the tamarind pulp to a fine paste.
3. Heat oil in a pan, add onions and fry till they turn translucent. Then add the ground paste and cook for another 2 mins.
4. Then add the raw mango slices , add water and salt as required and bring to a boil on medium heat by closing the lid.
5. Cook for 5 mins and add the prawns. Let them cook completely.
6. Serve hot with boiled rice.
