Mumbai Chowk
What do you do when you crave for authentic Mumbai Street Food in Bay Area..you go to Mumbai Chowk 🙂 I can’t believe that I had not been to this great restaurant in Newark after being such a Mumbai Food Lover. Mumbai chowk is a gateway to Indian food featuring food from famous food joints from Colaba to Borivali.
When you enter Mumbai Chowk, the first thing which you see is the unique decor. I just fell in love with it. There are collages of famous Mumbai foodie joints in their respective areas. Also the areas are named in the station name format. They take you back to local railway stations in Mumbai.
We ordered the Prawns Koliwada (shrimp marinated in special spiced batter and fried.), Irani Lamb Samosas(Crispy shells stuffed with mince Lamb served with chutney.) and Cut Mirchi (Jalapenos fried in chickpea batter and served with chutney) for appetizers. All the appetizers were just yum. Prawns Koliwada was melting in the mouth, lamb samosas were perfect crispy and cut mirchi took me back to the memory of local vada pav joints in Mumbai.
For main course we ordered Pomfret Fry, Lamb Kolhapuri, Wheat Roti and Misal Pav.
The Pomfret fry was fresh and well marinated, lamb kolhapuri was very flavorful with coconut gravy, wheat roti was so far the best wheat roti I ever had and misal pav is always my favorite.
We kept the best for the last which was the Kulfi Rabdi. So creamy and not super sweet.
We reached around pretty late in afternoon i.e. around 2.30pm. But the service was really good and fast. We didn’t have to starve or keep looking at the wall collages 😛
Overall loved the place. Will surely visit again to try the other items on the menu:)
