Whole Masoor Dal Recipe
Soothing spiced whole masoor dal cooked in tomatoes and onion gravy. It’s crunchy and soft as the same time. Tastes best with rotis or rice.
This dal reminds me of Dal Makhani but more less complicated. You can also have this dal as soup, just add more water while cooking.
Whenever you are bored or making pulses the regular way this masoor dal is a good getaway.
Ingredients
1 cup whole masoor dal
1 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
4 garlic pods-lightly crushed
4 green chillies chopped
Pinch of asafetida
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp garam masala powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp red chilli powder
Oil
Salt as per taste
Cilantro
Method
Wash the masoor dal well and keep it aside.
In pressure cooker heat oil.
Add mustard and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
Add crushed garlic and sautee for a minute.
Add chopped onions and green chillies
Add chopped tomatoe.
Mix well for a minute.
Now add all dry masalas and sautee well for 2 minutes.
Add whole masoor dal, cilantro and mix well.
Add 4 cups of water. Once it starts boiling cover the lid and pressure cook till 4 whistles.
Serve it hot with chapatis or rice.
