Dal Dhokli & Chakulya Recipe
Dal Dhokli is a famous indian delicacy made from whole wheat dhoklis simmered in dal. A sweeter version of it is made by simmering the dhoklis in jaggery and ghee. We call it Chakulya.
Currently Aai (my mom) is visiting me and everyday she makes amazing delicacies. I am totally pampered. So now I just Crave & Click because Cooking is done by my Aai 🙂
So many memories are associated with this special delicacy. I remember going to my village and my aunts making these dal dhoklis on mud stoves called as Chul
Dal Dhokli Recipe
Ingredients
Oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander and cumin powder
1 tbsp red chilli powder
1 pinch asafetida
1 cup toor dal
2 tbsp dry dessicated coconut
1 inch ginger
2 cloves garlic
coriander leaves
1 cup wheat flour
1 tbsp ghee
Method
Pressure cook toor dal
Grind coconut, ginger, garlic and coriander leaves
Make dough from wheat flour
In a pan heat oil, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, asafetida and the coconut paste.
Sautee well for 10 minutes till oil separates
Now add red chili powder and sautee for 10 mins
Now add toor dal. Add some warm water and make liquid consistency dal. Add salt and boil for 15 minutes.
On side make chapatis from wheat dough and cut each chapati into diamond or square shapes
Add the cut chapatis in the boiling water one by one.
Let it cook for 20 mins on medium flame. Make sure to stir in button.
Garnish with coriander leaves and ghee.
Serve it hot with papad and pickle
Chakulya- Sweet Dhokli
Ingredients
1/2 cup Wheat flour dough
1/2 cup Jaggery powder
1 cup water
1 tsp ghee
a pinch of salt
Method
Make dough from wheat flour
Boil water with jaggery, salt and ghee
On side make chapatis from wheat dough and cut each chapati into diamond or square shapes
Add the cut chapatis in the boiling jaggery water one by one. Let it cook
Serve it with ghee
Never tried with papad, will try now. Always had spicy raw onions though.
