Mishti Doi Recipe-Janmashtami Special
Mishti Doi is a simple but delicious yoghurt based dessert. It is a fermented sweet dahi or sweet yogurt. This type of yogurt is common in the states of West Bengal and Odisha in India, and in Bangladesh. It is made with milk and sugar, while also using yogurt and curd. Janmashtami commemorates the celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna, Lord Vishnu’s eighth incarnation.
I made this on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. Lord Krishna loved yoghurt so I thought of making this yoghurt based dessert 🙂
Hindus celebrate Janmashtami by fasting and staying up until midnight, the time when Krishna is believed to have been born. Images of Krishna’s infancy or idols are placed in swings and cradles in temples and homes.
