Birthday Celebrations 2018-Yellow Chilli Restaurant Review
This year’s birthday dinner was at Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor. It is a stylish chain restaurant serving Mughlai, Punjabi and dishes from India’s Northwestern frontier. I think almost every Indian household is familiar with its owner -Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
He is one of the most famous celebrity chef in the culinary world. I still remember watching his show Khana Khazana on Zee TV. More than the recipes he anchoring the show with the most warm smile was the USP of the show. This show turned out to be a big milestone in Sanjeev Kapoor’s career and after that there was no looking back for him.
Being a big time foodie, when I heard that his restaurant is opened in Santa Clara I surely wanted to try it out. Here is my review for the same.
Ambience
Let’s start with ambience. I love the beautiful decor and the feel of the place. The lighting, artwork and seating is really appealing and makes it totally worth for a special occasion.
Drinks
Ritesh ordered Maja Yeto which was a mint and rum based cocktail with a dash of chat masala. It tasted somewhat like pani puri ka pani. Not very unpredictable but very potent. Can give you a good kick.
I ordered an interesting mocktail called Peru Pyala..It was guava based topped with some tajin. It was blast of flavors and I was very impressed.
Appetisers
Kacche kele ke Kebab.
This was a vegetarian kebab made from raw banana and indian spices. It was recommended by our server. We were bit hesitant to try it out but didn’t regret our decision to order it. Crunchy from outside and soft within. It was melting in the mouth. Not super spicy but flavorful.
In chicken, we ordered the char broiled chicken tikka with bedgi mirchi. It was spicy and flavorful. But I found it a bit dry. I had to drizzle lot of lemon and green chutney to make it soft.
The grilled prawns were made to perfection. Totally lip-smacking and juicy. Loved it to the core
Main Course
Puran Singh da Tariwala Murgh.
This was a chicken curry dhaba style. It was inspired by the famous Puran Singh Dhaba in Delhi It was onion based chicken gravy with lot of garam masala. Had it with the pyaaz mirch roti which was interesting
Dessert
Ordered the Malai Khulfi with Rabdi for dessert. The best part of the kulfi- it was not super sweet. It was like a regular kulfi nothing extraordinary.
Pricing
It is definitely not low priced. It is on higher side. The dishes are innovative and the quantities are large so it justifies the price. But even if the dishes are innovative I felt something was missing. They weren’t exceptional which you would expect from a Masterchef’s restaurant.
Service
Our server Bunny was super good and he recommended some good dishes. He also made sure that we don’t over order as quantity of each dish was good enough for 3 people. Our food came pretty fast. We went quite late like around 9pm and that can also be one of the reasons for fast service as the rush hour was over.
Overall this place is worth a try for a special occasion. I would give highest rank to the ambience and innovative dishes.
Must Try Dishes
I have heard a lot about their Sham Savera gravy which we didn’t try as I am a hardcore non-vegetarian. Also there gulab jamun with gulkand stuffing is very famous
Attire
I wanted to wear a saree but wanted to drape it in a different way. I ordered this saree and blouse from Amazon.
