Masoor Dal Khichdi

Made from split red lentil/masoor and rice, Masoor Dal khichdi is the perfect soothing dinner recipe after a tiring day. Khichdi is considered to be  bland but I like my khichdi to be much more interesting:)

Ingredients IMG 8295 950x753 Masoor Dal Khichdi 2 cups rice

1 cup split red lentil/masoor dal

1 tbsp ghee

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp cumin

1 tsp turmeric powder

1tsp asafetida

1 tsp garam masala

To Make Paste

1 onion

3 tbsp shredded coconut

6-7 chillies

6 curry leaves

coriander leaves

salt

MethodMix rice and masoor dal. Drain the water and keep it aside.In a pressure cooker, heat ghee.Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.Add asafetida, turmeric powder and cumin seeds.Add the paste and fry till oil separates.Add rice and masoor dal. Mix well.Add water, salt, coriander leaves and garam masala.Pressure cook till 3 whistles.Pour ghee and serve hot with papad.
