Made from split red lentil/masoor and rice, Masoor Dal khichdi is the perfect soothing dinner recipe after a tiring day. Khichdi is considered to be bland but I like my khichdi to be much more interesting:)
1 cup split red lentil/masoor dal
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp garam masala
To Make Paste
3 tbsp shredded coconut
6 curry leaves
Mix rice and masoor dal. Drain the water and keep it aside.
In a pressure cooker, heat ghee.
Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add asafetida, turmeric powder and cumin seeds.
Add the paste and fry till oil separates.
Add rice and masoor dal. Mix well.
Add water, salt, coriander leaves and garam masala.
Pressure cook till 3 whistles.
Pour ghee and serve hot with papad.
