August 1 Five San Francisco Restaurant Review-Anniversary Celebrations

August 1 Five is a modern Indian restaurant named for the date commemorating India’s independence from British rule.Located in San Francisco, it offers an interesting indian food menu along with stunning ambience and great service. We had our anniversary dinner there and instantly fell in love with the food, ambience and the overall vibe.

One thing which catches your attention as soon as you enter the restaurant is the huge portrait of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh who was the Maharaja of Patiala. The portrait is totally magnificent. I made sure that we were seated near this portrait 🙂

For appetizers we ordered the Gol Guppa Flight (wheat shells, chaat masala, potato (water: grape, tamarind, mint-cilantro, mango, fruit punch)

It was a creative version of pani puri.

Another appetiser which was very unique was Spicy Chicken (red Kashmiri chili, garlic, garam masala, tomato)

This chicken was so tender and juicy from inside yet crispy and soft from outside. I was just not able to understand the technique used to make it and I guess that’s what makes it unique.

For the main course we ordered Cheese & Basil Naan, Tandoori Sea Bass & Chicken Biryani

The tandoori sea bass was my favorite as it was so flavorful with lemon zest and dill. Served on the bed of toasted buckwheat it was a culinary delight.

The dessert was the highlight of the evening. We ordered the Ghevar and it was the best Ghevar we ever had. They made it more special with the sweet message of the plate.

The presentation of all the dishes was top notch. In terms of pricing it is reasonable priced and is a must try

After the dinner we visited the Treasure Island as it was on my wish list since long time.
